The continuing challenges of pharmaceutical research call for the best talents in all areas of the biosciences. The elucidation of disease processes on the molecular level, the identification, characterization, and validation of biological targets for therapeutic intervention, and the development of the necessary tools to assist in the discovery and development of small or macromolecular entities for novel efficacious and causal therapies, belong to the many difficult, but rewarding tasks of bioscientists. Roche is one of the world's leading research-based healthcare companies active in the discovery, development, manufacture, and marketing of pharmaceuticals and diagnostic systems. Our products and services address prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, thus improving people's health and quality of life. Roche's success relies on qualified research efforts which are substantially above the pharmaceutical industrial average worldwide. Roche attracts brilliant scientists from all disciplines, fosters their imagination and creativity in a mutually stimulating research atmosphere, and promotes their efficiency and productivity by constantly developing its innovative expert technology platforms. Modern drug discovery involves a wide range of cutting-edge technologies and intense collaborations in multi-disciplinary project teams, in which bioscientists of diverse scientific backgrounds play key roles. If you are interested to learn how modern pharmaceutical research is organized in one of the leading pharmaceutical companies like Roche, you are encouraged to apply for this unique Symposium. Preference will be given to postgraduates with broad interests and significant achievements especially in the neurosciences or vascular and metabolic disease areas, ranging from enzyme and receptor biochemistry to physiology and in vivo models. This intense three-day Symposium will provide you excellent opportunities to meet with other outstanding young scientists from many different countries and to share first-rate bioscience with them. At the same time you will gain insights into the multifaceted pharmaceutical research at Roche, see the interplay of many disciplines and latest technologies at Roche, and have ample opportunities to interact informally with members of Roche pharmaceutical research at all levels. Attendance at this Symposium is by invitation and will be certified by an official document. The number of invited participants is limited to some twenty young scientists who are all expected to present their research work in a short lecture. Outstanding contributions will be honored by special Symposium Awards. Nothing is written or published, and no information presented or discussed will be used elsewhere without the written approval of the authors concerned. To apply for this Symposium, please send an application letter together with a short curriculum vitae, a succinct abstract of your research work, and a recommendation letter by your research supervisor(s). The application deadline is November 04, 2005. Final decisions on all applications will be made by Roche towards the end of 2005. The successful candidates will receive a formal invitation by Roche with all necessary details of the Symposium. Travel expenses will be covered and hotel accommodation will be provided together with a full social program. |
