Verzasca 1998

We had prayed all week for the rain to stop and in fact when we left the weather was beautiful. Part of the group travelled down in a 9 seater bus and the others took some of the equipment and headed south by car. When we finally arrived at the river it was still running very high and any diving would have been far too risky.

You don't drive that far and not "get wet" so we decided to try a dive in the dam lake (stausee).

The entry point was not easy to find but after long discussions and talking to the locals we set the ropes and got kitted up and posed for the camera!!

The visibility was not great but it was quite interesting to dive in the "sunken forest"

The evening was great fun, in the restaurant and around the bar!

The next day some brave souls headed off to do another dive while the others went for a 4 hour walk and enjoyed the magnificent scenery along the thundering river. We all met up and had a final pizza together before heading home, a disappointment for the diving but still a great weekend. Thanks again to Matthias for organising the whole thing, maybe we’ll have more luck this year.
